"Please do not turn off your computer 1 of 42 updates "  Really?? there must be a better way!!!

I have fought this for a long time but it doesn't take a rocket scientist or Microsoft engineer to realize that many of us use laptops and when we want to shut down it's likely it's to pick it up and go. So I just have to ask, who thinks it's alright to suddenly take control of my computer for multiple hours to do updates without my permission regarding timing or execution!! What if I am heading to a super important meeting? How 'bout doing a projection for a prime client? I have waited as long as 2 hours for these updates and was given zero choice in the mater. In fact what I got was "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing ___ of 42 updates". There is no indication of the time this is going to take or how I can safely delay the event till sometime when I can actually afford the time. The audacity of it is quite amazing. This is the kind of thing that is taking Apple market share from 5 to 15% and growing. There has GOT to be a better way! You ALWAYS have the option to switch off automatic installation and if youre in the habit of doing presentations, its probably a good idea to so so. Windows Updates > Change Settings > Download Updates, but let me choose whether to install them You can also take the less hazardous (if youre the forgetful type like me) of changing the time at which updates will automatically install, on the same page to a day and time on which you know the PC is usually going to be on, but not in use.
